Too bad you didn't say a single word about the current political context. Ecocidal authoritarists are on the rise and one of them is now in the White House. That means that even the little pieces of positivity you put in your article are now outdated.

I know it must feel that way if you live in America. Thankfully, there is still a lot of confidence and optimism in other parts of the world.

I'm not living in america, and the political context in my country is not better. Optimism is pretty irrational when authoritarian leaders are in power, i dare you to cite a single way to fight that won't be criminalized in more or less short term.

Politics isn't important. Seriously. I know certain politicians make life difficult, and climate and nature-friendly policies would be a boost, but there is so much good work being done around the world by businesses, entrepreneurs, charities, organisations and more.

I come from a position of believing that we can't 'save the planet'.

But we CAN make a difference still. We can save lives, we can save habitats.

You allude to the negative qualities of humans, especially powerful humans, which prevent us making meaningful progress. Sadly, this is true.

But that doesn't stop us winning smaller battles - many fights can absolutely be won.

I work with many businesses who are effecting real, beneficial change - from powering towns and communities with renewable energy microgrids, to making clothing without plastic, to rewildling vast areas of land... the list goes on and on.

That's where my confidence and focus lies. Not in the politics.

How long will they be able to act as such before being reduced to powerlessness due to criminalization that will inevitably come?

All those things won't be restricted, don't worry, there is no political advantage in stopping them. Certainly in the UK, where I am based, such enterprises are still actively encouraged.

You lost me at 'scientific experts'. These people claiming this moniker made such a fool of themselves over 'covid' the 'public', especially on the 'right' politically has no trust in their credentials.

You’re living in your own tiny little bubble . There are independent scientific climate experts (the kind who train for more than 10 years, like doctors and other professions) in every country around the world. All of them finding the same results. Because they are measured. CO2 is measured. Methane is measured. Rainfall is measured. Ice melt is measured. Etc etc. it’s not rocket science. It’s important science though. And they put their measurements on a graph and show politicians. And in most countries, action is taken. But we have a lot to improve….

? You completely misunderstood me. I get that the evidence for co2 anthropogenic climate crisis is very strong. However, in most countries showing politicians graphs causes action to be taken? Are you mad? There is no action on climate change, just an energy addition of greener energy and some targets that are never met.

The ‘covid’ wasn’t rocket science either. But it’s been used to make a large portion of the public completely mistrust ‘experts’ because they were clearly on the take over the unevidenced meeasures etc.

You’re living in a bubble if you think that merely presenting graphs to politicians and the public alike is going to make any difference.

I'm sorry for misidentifying you as a covid conspiracy theorist, but actually, it is true that wide ranging actions are taken in almost every country to mitigate against the connected climate and nature emergencies. It's not all about energy. Sadly, the action being taken just isn't anywhere near strong enough, you're right about that.

So you’re not interested in looking into the evidence.

Piss off with your pejorative comments.
